| You know, I've gotten this email from quite a few people and have been pretty patient and tolerant...HOWEVER
The blatant ignorance in the statement "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT" totally ignores the fact that MY ancestors, Native Americans were forced to adapt or die when the Europeans came to this once fruitful land.
"Americans" always feel that they don't need to adapt, whether it's invading another country and imposing their religion on the inhabitants or vacationing outside the country and complaining when nobody speaks English.
I love it that people say "America: Love it or Leave it" when in fact, it wasn't even "America" before amateur pornographer, Amerigo Vescpucci stuck his name on it.
"God" (the same one for which the brutal, oppressive and murderous Crusades were fought) bless the United States (which weren't states before the land was brutally stolen through blood and deceit) of America (which was built by the hands of enslaved Africans for 300 years)!!!
To hell with the terrorists (except the ones who drop atomic bombs on cities like Hiroshima and Nagasaki)!!!!
Ridiculous.

| Using sex to sell your product doesn't make you a shrewd businessman/woman. It makes you a whore. So, remember while you're trying to keep the latest flash in the pan above water so you can squeeze the last couple of bucks out...
If you don't want the wolves...don't flash the meat.

| Dear Congressman Goodlatte,
I received your letter regarding funding for PBS. I strongly disagree with the notion that public television and radio are used by "only a small percentage of taxpayers" and that there are a wide variety of alternatives. These "alternatives" you mention (Learning Channel, Discovery Channel, A&E, CNN, C-Span, History Channel, etc.) are ALL cable channels that not everyone can afford. In addition, if taxpayers are not required to fund Public Broadcasting, would that add money to the taxpayers' pockets or would it go to fund one of the many other programs that most Americans do not agree they should fund?
Perhaps that money could join the billions of dollars we already hemorrhage to Israel. Perhaps we could use that money to fund cushy retirement plans for retired politicians. Maybe it could go into military training. We did such a good job training Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, it would be a shame to waste all of that money on classical music and nature programs for children.
Perhaps Congress needs a raise?
Think it through. Not every American can afford luxuries such cable. Some of us are just trying to make it though every day, struggling and wondering how we are going to get by when we retire.
Do good things, Bob. Do the right thing.

| As a homeowner in Roanoke City, I wish to appeal to your good sense in regards to the "feral cat problem". I have read the report and, although I agree with opinion that cats need to be neutered/spayed and licensed, I disagree with imprisoning them. I would, however, like to point out that it seems Roanokers were polarized on the issue of forcing cats inside. People against the locking up of their pets outnumbered the people who wanted cats out of sight.
I am a college graduate, cat lover, animal lover and contributor to the ASPCA. I support any decision to license cats. I support the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats. I can only see harm, however, in the locking up of all cats in Roanoke. Adult cats who have grown accustomed to freedom will be traumatized. Forcing such a radical change in their behavior would be detrimental to their health.
The arguments I have heard for keeping cats indoors have not been very convincing: "Cat prints on the tops of cars" and "dug up flowerbeds" are small problems and quite frankly, transparent in their shallowness.
I rescued my cat from uncaring owners who would not let him in when it was cold, would go on vacation with no one to feed him, would not neuter him and refused to take him to the vet for his ear mite problem. He is a very happy kitty now. He has a nice house with a wooded backyard, a deck on which he suns himself and cat friends who come to visit. He eats well twice a day and he sleeps indoors.
I know this cat well. I know he would go insane if he were forced to stay in the house.
There is a darker side to your problem, however. Not every cat owner (as demonstrated by my cat's former owners) takes care of their cats as well as I and many of my friends. If Roanoke City enacts a law requiring cats to be locked indoors, many of those "bad cat owners" will turn their backs on the kitties and, in turn the cats will be literally left out in the cold.
Cats cannot be treated like dogs. They cannot be fenced in adequately and cannot be tied to a tree.
As it stands, good honest, hard-working people are treating their pets with respect and honor. There are cats who are homeless because some people will not do the right thing and spay or neuter their pets.
THIS is the problem. Feral cats are the SYMPTOM.
Please do the right thing | | |
